Everything you need to know about cleansers: find the right one for skin type

What are cleansers?

Cleansers are the first step of the skincare routine. They are used to clean and purify the skin. Hence keeping the skin healthy. There are different types of cleansers:

  • Facial wipes
  • Cleansing oils
  • Liquid cleansers (gel, cream, and foam cleansers)
  • Bar soaps
  • Cleansing balms
  • Micellar waters

With so many cleansers to choose from, which cleanser should you used for your skin needs?

It is important to choose the right cleanser to avoid breakouts, dehydration, sensitivity and even clogging.

For oily skin

Oily skin produces excess oil. The skin appears to have extra shine. A gel or foam cleanser will help your skin as they purify the skin wihout being too harsh. Using a cleanser with an acid can help unclogging your pores. You can follow this step  with a toner containing salicylic acid or glycolic acid if your cleanser does not contained any acid.

For dry skin

Dry skin feels tight because it lacks moisture. A milk or oil cleanser are what you are looking for. They help to bring moisture back to your skin. It is all about keeping your skin hydrated.

For combination skin

Combination skin is when some parts of your skin are oily, and the rest is dry. It is a mixture of the two previous categories. Gel, foam, milk, and oil cleanser may benefit your skin.

For sensitive skin

With sensitive skin, it is important to be gentle with your skin and to use nourishing ingredients. Gel and milk cleanser are great options. Bar soap are another alternative as long they filled with nourishing ingredients like aloe vera, avocado, hyaluronic acid.  Micellar water is also option as it cleans the skin without the use of water.
